About Mark
Biography
Mark Kantrowitz is President of MK Consulting Inc. and Publisher of
the FinAid and FastWeb web sites owned by Monster Worldwide.
He is ABD on a PhD in computer science from Carnegie Mellon University
(CMU). He has Bachelor of Science
degrees in mathematics and philosophy from MIT and a Master of Science
degree in computer science from CMU. Mark is also an alumnus of the
Research Science Institute program
established by Admiral H. G. Rickover. He has previously been employed
at Just Research, the MIT Artificial Intelligence Laboratory, the
Center for Excellence in Education, Bitstream Inc., and the Planning
Research Corporation.
Mark has testified before Congress about student aid on several occasions. He
is interviewed regularly by news outlets, including the

Activities
Mark is the author of four books, including two about student
financial aid. His most recent book,
FastWeb College Gold
(Harper
Collins, September 2006) is a step-by-step guide to
paying for college. (The
book is an Amazon.com bestseller with an Amazon.com sales rank of 96
overall and a rank of 25 in the nonfiction category on November 8, 2006.)
He holds six patents, with several additional patent
applications still pending. His most recent patent concerns
optimizing the scheduling of diagnostic tests
for screening and post-treatment follow-up for cancer and other medical conditions.
In his spare time Mark folds origami models,
repairs antique battery-operated toys,
creates
stained glass panels,
collects
Australian Aboriginal Art
and
plays with his cats Joto
and Blue Belle.
