Mark's Favorite Kosher Recipes

  • Instant Graham-Chocolate Dessert. The ingredients are graham crackers, instant chocolate pudding and milk. Make a few packages of the instant chocolate pudding according to package directions, but do not chill it yet. Put down a layer of intact graham crackers in a cake pan. Pour enough chocolate pudding to cover the graham crackers. Add another layer of graham crackers and pudding. Repeat until you have about a dozen layers or have run out of chocolate pudding. Cover the top of the pan with foil and put it in the refrigerator to chill for several hours. The chocolate pudding softens the graham crackers, turning the concoction into a delicious layer cake. My grandmother would add peaches on top, but I think it is better without.

  • Sesame Cold Noodles. Use 1 cup hot water, 8 tbsp creamy peanut butter, 2 tbsp soy sauce, 1 tbsp sesame oil, 2 tbsp vinegar, 2 heaping tbsp sugar, 1 tsp ginger, 1 tbsp margarine and one package of spaghetti. Mix ingredients together, then heat in a saucepan over a medium low heat until the mixture congeals. Cover and turn heat down to low while you make the pasta. Stir occasionally. Make pasta as per package directions (i.e., 10-12 minutes). Sauce should now be dark brown. Drain pasta and return to pot, pour sauce over pasta. Mix well. Serve hot or cold.

  • Pareve Chocolate Chip Cake. Use 2-1/2 cups flour, 2 tsp baking powder, 1/2 tsp salt, 1 stick pareve unsalted margarine, 1-1/2 cups sugar, 2 eggs, 1/2 cup Coffee Rich (pareve milk), 1 tsp vanilla, and 1 package pareve chocolate chips (12 oz). Mix flour, baking powder and salt and set aside. Blend margarine and sugar. Beat in eggs one at a time. Add flour alternately with pareve milk. Add vanilla and chocolate chips. Pour into a greased 9x13 pan (use pareve Pam spray). Bake 45 minutes to an hour at 350 degrees. Check to see if done with a tooth pick. You may have to bake the cake an additional 5-10 minutes, depending on your oven. The particular brand of pareve milk lends a nice vanilla-like flavor to the cake.
